I was like you, I had a hard time understanding WiFi connection until I did my research and figured out how to set it up for myself for Animal Crossing: Wild World. One thing you can do is hop on over to www.nintendowifi.com to find specific public places in your area that have open WiFi connection for you to use. But another is to take the advice I have here for you. So, you're at home. Why don't we get started with a few questions. In order to connect to Nintendo's Wi-Fi connection, you need a couple of things.
First, Do you have a high-speed Internet connection, such as cable or DSL?
yes.... or no
If you said "no"...
You will need a high speed internet connection in order for the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection to operate properly.
Contact your ISP to see if this is a service you would be interested in.
If you said "yes"...
Great! Next, do you have a wireless router?
yes.... no.... I don't know....
(Ask your parent or gaurdian if you do not know!)
If you said "no"...

If you said "yes"...
Okay. You have everything you need. Now let's get you connected.
With a Wi-Fi compatible game inserted into your Nintendo DS, access the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings screen. Your game manual provides information on how to do this for the game you are playing.
At this point, you have a few different connection options. The easiest way to get connected to Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection is through the "Search for an Access Point" function of the Nintendo DS. We highly recommend this method.

If you said "I don't know"...
So, you're not sure if you have a wireless router. The best source to determine this, is your router manual. This should tell you if it is wireless or not. You could also check the website of the manufacturer of the router. Or, check to see if there is an antennae coming off the router.
Here are a list of the wireless routers that work well with Nintendo compatibility. (The information given is organized as the router name, model number, rating, and comments, respectively.)
